The TISA is looking to open a bingo hall to help generate funds for tribal programs. Medical and housing costs are a problem in the region and leaders say they are attempting to open the hall to offset funds that were promised in 1904. The Tribe has held bingo events over the years, but this would be the first attempt at building a facility for it in the region. The facility will be on tribal land and they are currently seeking funding for the project.
The Trenton Indian Service Area, a government agency established to service the Turtle Mountain Tribe as well as others in the region, has taken political heat from the Tribe in recent months due to a perceived lack of support and communication. The tribe has indicated that it feels the distance between the tribe and the TISA is a problem that cannot be solved.
Currently there is a survey ongoing to determine how much income would be generated and a public notice has been published to seek comments.
