Report from IMGL Spring Conference

May 11 2012
Steve and Kathryn recently returned from the Spring Conference of the International Masters of Gaming Law, held in Scottsdale, AZ, in April.  The IMGL is an outstanding organization, with global membership of the best gaming attorneys, regulators, consultants, and educators.  The Spring Conference, planned by John Roberts and John Maloney, included excellent panels on two tracks: legalized gambling around the world, and Indian gaming issues.  Both Steve and Kathryn were panelists in the tribal gaming track.

Kathryn's panel was Organized Labor Issues Facing Tribal Casinos, chaired by Mike McBride.  Leonard Court and Phil Wilson also were panelists.  The panel discussed the San Manuel Band v. NLRB case, as well as the 10th Circuit case currently on review.  The panel also took up the tension between application of the National Labor Relations Act to tribes, and tribal sovereignty.  This was a terrific panel.  As Kathryn said, one of the best pieces on this issue is Mike&Leonard's 2007 article in the John Marshall Law Review.
