Tribes, Along with Everyone Else, Playing Politics in CA Gubernatorial Race

Sep 23 2010
Thanks in large part to Indian gaming, tribes are enjoying political influence in California's gubernatorial race.  Like everyone else with an interest at stake, tribes are paying attention and playing in the political arena.  No surprise there.

Here's an interesting statement in a recent column about tribal authority over gaming.  In response to a reader's question about how the age limits are set for casinos, the columnist included this comment:

"With Indian gaming, tribes are free to set their own legal limits. For example, in California, the legal age to gamble is 18. However, most Indian casinos serve alcohol and have arbitrarily set the minimum age at 21 to comply with what's required for their alcohol license."
